When you arrive at the Dole Plantation you'll board the "Pineapple Express" for a 20 minute narrated train ride through the working pineapple plantation. You will learn about the history of the world's most popular tropical fruit, and hear how James Dole founded the plantation exactly where it stands today. Along the way you will pass fields of pineapple that often represent all stages of growth in the lifecycle of this fascinating plant.
Following your train ride, you may tour the Dole Garden or challenge your problem solving skills in the Dole Maze, the world's largest outdoor maze formed from shubbery and plants. Of course time is also alotted for you to taste some fresh field ripened fruit and shop in the Dole visitor's center. The cost of admission for the train ride is included in the tour price, as well as either the Dole Garden tour or the Dole Maze.
Following your pineapple plantation visit, the tour continues past Haleiwa town and North Shore surfing beaches at Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach. You will continue around the northern tip of the island past Laie Town, Kahana Valley, and stop for a photo at the famous landmark known as "Chinaman's Hat" which is a small islet off Oahu's windward coast. Finally, you will drive through a tunnel in the spectacular Ko'olau Mountain Range and return to your starting point.

TIPS
If you've never tasted field ripened pineapple cut open and served fresh while it's still in the field, you've never REALLY tasted pineapple! This experience will make you want to go home and picket the produce department of your local grocery store for having the audacity to sell those flavorless pineapples produced in other parts of the world. The Pineapple Express train ride is a very popular event with children of all ages, even those over 21!
This half day tour is a great way to experience the Dole Plantation, as well as to take in some of the spectacular sights on Oahu's famous north shore. This excursion is operated by Enoa Tours and we enthusiastically recommend them for a number of reasons. Firstly, this tour company is only located on Oahu ... it is their specialty and they are experts on this island. Secondly, all of their guides are personable and knowledgable, certified by the state of Hawaii to conduct tours. Thirdly, and most important, their tours are conducted on 25 passenger minicoach vehicles with oversized windows for superior visibility, and NOT on giant 55 passenger buses! The big bus tours have a tendency to crawl along at a snails pace because it takes so long to get people on and off the vehicle at each stop. The more people you have on board, the better the chance someone is going to be slowing you down all day. With a smaller group, you spend more time seeing the sights and less time waiting to move on to the next stop. Also, the smaller group size gives you more personal interaction with your driver / guide.
