No trip to Oahu would be complete without visiting Hawaii’s most popular tourist attraction … the USS Arizona Memorial. This tour includes the Arizona Memorial visitor’s center, a powerful documentary film, and a ferry boat ride which takes you out to the Memorial. From there you will gaze down into the water where just below the surface lies the deck of the USS Arizona, the final resting place for many of the 1177 crew members who lost their lives on December 7, 1941. There are many large tour buses that bring guests to Pearl Harbor, but this tour is superior to the big bus tours because these excursions are all done in smaller 25 passenger mini-coaches. This gives each guest more personal attention from the guide, and the oversize windows in these mini-coach vehicles offer superior visibility.

The Pearl Harbor and Circle Island tour is perfect for those who want to see as much as possible in one day! After Pearl Harbor the tour continues on a full-day circle island route. Numerous stops are made throughout the day including the Dole Pineapple Plantation Visitor’s Center, North Shore surfing beaches, and Nu’uanu Pali Lookout. You’ll see the beautiful coral and white sand beaches of Oahu’s windward side, the famous landmark islet known as “Chinaman’s Hat”, and drive through Kahala – the “Beverly Hills of Hawaii.”  Other stops include Halona Blowhole & Lookout and Hanauma Bay Lookout (closed every Tuesday).  Your guide will most likely include additional stops during the day depending on his/her narrative and interesting scenes along the way.

High winds or structural or mechanical issues may affect operation of the Navy’s shuttle boat ride out to the Arizona Memorial … it may not be able to operate, or it may operate but view the memorial without actually landing. On days when this occurs there are no tour price adjustments made as such disruptions are beyond the control of the tour companies and when they do occur there is typically very little advanced notice. The Arizona Memorial visitor’s center, museum, and documentary film are still part of the tour on these affected days.

CPearl Harbor and Circle Island Tourruise Ship Passengers

If you are cruising on the Pride of America and spending the night at a hotel in Waikiki prior to your cruise, you can do the Pearl Harbor and North Shore tour on the same day that you board your NCL cruise ship. If you are on a cruise that visits Honolulu just for the day, the pickup time for this tour is usually too early for you to make it in time.

Activity Tips

Kevin Ditamore – Owner / Manager

A visit to Pearl Harbor is a must-do activity for anyone coming to Oahu. The USS Arizona Memorial is one of our nation’s most sacred places. Regardless of your interest in history or WWII, a visit to this shrine is an emotional experience. If you have never been … you should go. The documentary film prepares you well for what you are about to experience, because when the film ends and the doors open, everyone boards the Navy shuttle boat in hushed silence. The boat ride to the memorial only takes a few minutes. When you are on the Memorial, you’ll look down into the water and see the outline of the Arizona’s remains knowing that it is the final resting place for hundreds of US servicemen.

One tip for photographing the memorial … when you are re-boarding the boat for the return to the vistor’s center, try to get in the last row. As the boat pulls away from the Arizona, you will get a very dramatic photo.
