Waterfall Picnic Ride - Take a memorable journey across the 2500 acre ranch and visit a spectacular waterfall for a picnic and swim. In contrast to the usual nose-to-tail rides you are free to take the horses off the trail and wander across the open pastures. The tour is also available as a PRIVATE ride for a higher rate.

Your 3 hour adventure begins with brief horsemanship instructions before you depart on the gentle horses. Along the way, you’ll soak up breathtaking views of mountains, valleys and the ocean. Your guide will share the history of ranching on Kauai, cowboy lore and point out native plants.

This adventure is more than a horseback ride! After tying up the horses, you’ll hike down a steep trail with steps and rope handholds. Winding through the lush rainforest, you’ll traverse streams on your way to a secluded 80-foot waterfall. It’s all yours for an hour! Explore the falls and swim in the fern-lined pool. Then relax and enjoy a delicious picnic, before hiking back out for 15 minutes. The hike includes an easy climb up a 10-foot rock wall. You’ll be amazed at the view of the waterfall tiers – from the top down!

Your trusty steed welcomes you once again, as your adventure ends with a leisurely ride back across the open pastures, enjoying the spectacular scenery. It’s Kauai horseback riding at its best!

Kevin Ditamore – Owner / Manager

If you are looking for a ride to a waterfall, Princeville Ranch is the one! Even if you are staying on the South Shore of Kauai this ride is very much worth the drive to the North Shore. The waterfall ride does include a short but steep hike down a trail to get to the stream where you will enjoy a swim and a picnic lunch. This is an amazing, private waterfall with a fern-lined swimming hole! We also appreciate that Princeville Ranch encourages everyone to spread out while riding – so you aren’t always in a line on the ride.

If you prefer a beach-oriented ride with ocean views, CJM Stables is the one for you. They ride to a remote beach that you won’t be able to see any other way. They are located at the very end of the Poipu Beach, a few miles beyond the Hyatt. .
